Snow White – Durham Farm and Rural Resources

Uxbridge Family Dentistry is pleased to be a Gold Sponsor for “Snow White” – a fundraiser for Durham Farm and Rural Family Resources (DFRFR), which is a non-profit organization that provides children with learning resources in the Durham region.  One such resource is the Early Years Centre, which I have made use of weekly with our son, Kai.  At the Uxbridge location, there is a plethora of toys, books, and play centres for the children.  As well, a lactation consultant and speech pathologist are available every month for free consultations and advice.  Parents of young children in the Durham region are ever so fortunate to have access to four Early Year centres in Uxbridge, Beaverton, Cannington, and Sunderland.  The centres provide a place for kids to interact with peers, learn through play, and also allows parents to meet others in the community.  All centres are provided free of charge thanks to DFRFR.

The Uxbridge Public Library turns 125 years old!

Every time I visit the Uxbridge Public Library both in person and online, I grow more impressed by how it has managed to keep pace with the changing times despite budget cuts.  From constantly updating their book selection to offering E-Book downloads, to blazing trails with its active facebook page and loyal twitter following, it is incredible to see how much this library does for the community.  It’s hard to believe that this year, the UPL will mark 125 years of promoting literacy and spreading the joy of reading in our town!

Celebrating 125 years of serving the Uxbridge community

To help celebrate this momentous occasion, a black-tie event called “Book Lovers’ Ball and Benefit” is being held on April 14, 2012 at Wooden Sticks with the goal of raising funds for the Library Expansion Fund.

My brother, Dr. Vi Tu Banh and I are proud to be GOLD sponsors of this event, as libraries such as as the UPL have been a fundamental part of our own childhoods and careers.  A passion for life-long learning is a must for people of all ages and career paths, and that begins with an early love for reading.

Supporting the Uxbridge Half Marathon and Uxbridge Cottage Hospital

Uxbridge Half Marathon
Uxbridge Half Marathon 2012 – Raising funds to support the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital

Uxbridge Family Dentistry is excited to announce that Dr. Michael Banh and his brother, Dr. Vi Tu Banh (Uxbridge Optometrist), have donated $5000 as GOLD SPONSORS for this year’s Uxbridge Half Marathon!!!

Dr. Michael Banh was born at the Uxbride Cottage Hospital, so it is with great pride that he is able to support this integral cornerstone of the community.  Both brothers are active runners and have participated in previous Uxbridge Half Marathons.

This charitable event is organized by the  Uxbridge Cottage Hospital Auxiliary, with assistance from the Greater Uxbridge Road Runners and the Gorgons.  Net  proceeds of the event go directly towards funding for equipment, technology, renovations, special projects and a sustained emergency department for the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital.  The focus this year is to raise funds specifically for the purchase of a new ultrasound unit.

“I encourage local residents to volunteer to help with this race as a way to support their Hospital Foundation” enthused Nancy Emo, President of the Hospital Auxiliary.  “I know Katharine Shepherd (race director) and her team work exceptionally hard every year to plan and present this event, and the community sees direct benefit from its fundraising, which goes towards new equipment such as the new diagnostic imaging machines purchased last year”.

The event this year will be held on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Wooden Sticks.  For more information about how to participate in and/or support the race, please visit

Happy Running!
